We love Veggie Tales (from a distance only though)

Avery has had a Veggie Tale obsession for quite a while now. I think Larry the Cucumber qualifies as her first crush! We heard the characters were going to be at a book store not too far away, so we had to visit. Apparently, Avery was not at all impressed. In fact, she was really scared of them! She would wave from a distance, but would start to cry when we got closer. After about 45 minutes, she warmed up enough so we could take a picture, but I had to hold her and she still was scared. And after all that, the person who took the picture didn't wait until we were in focus. Oh well! I still had fun at least! We're going to Veggie Tales live next month-hopefully we'll be far enough away that she'll enjoy it. :)

Abby's first meal & other random pics

Well, I swore up & down that Abby would not be eating solids until she was 6 months old. True to Abby's nature, she had other ideas. Daddy thought she looked mighty interested in his avocado, so he gave her some. She was mighty upset when she only got one bite. She ended up eating 1/3 of an avocado. My little baby's growing up! (BTW, I only have 2 more weeks to go until she's 6 months, so not too bad.)

Hey! I'm talking to you!!!

What a smile. :)

Avery, with our chocolate lab puppy, Gracie. (Who, by the way, is sooo much bigger than that now!)

Stylin'!

Yummy avocados!

Hello Again

Hi everyone! Sorry it has been so long since the last post. We've had a lot going on in the last few months. Most of you probably already know, but Marshall's mom unexpectedly passed away on July 1st. We are so glad we were able to see her and for the girls to meet her just a month before her death. We are confident that she is with Jesus now and is completely whole. We love you Mom/Grand-T!

Avery's Brush with the Law

Things are definitely getting more interesting in the Meyer Household the older Avery gets. This morning I was upstairs putting lotion on Abby after her bath. I had the gate across the stairs and Avery was running around upstairs playing with various toys. I then heard the phone in my bedroom beeping like it had been left off the hook. I went to investigate and sure enough Avery had been playing with it. I put the phone back on the receiver and went about my day. We went downstairs and I got Avery her breakfast and I started nursing Abby. Then the doorbell rings. It's about 8:30am and I'm wondering who could be at the door. I figure it's probably a solicitor and go on nursing Abby. (She can be a fussy eater, so when things are going well I don't dare disturb her!) After I'm done nursing Abby I go to the door to see if whoever it was left anything on the doorstep. Imagine my surprise to see a police car sitting in the driveway!!! Apparently they had received a 911 call from our house. When they tried to call back to check on us the line was busy, so they sent an officer out to make sure we were ok. I assured the officer we were fine and that somehow my two-year-old had dialed 911. She suggested I give Avery a toy phone to play with instead of a real one. HA! Avery has several toy phones, but the real ones always win. Anyway, I think I'll be moving all my phones out of her reach.

It's Avery's 2nd B-day!

We had Avery's 2nd b-day party on Saturday. She is obessed with Veggie Tales, so we threw her a Veggie Tale party. She had a blast! It's hard to believe how quickly time has gone and how grown up our little girl is. We are lucky to have such a sweet, funny, smart, and loving little girl as our daughter. We love you Avery!

Trip to Texas and Oklahoma

We visited Marshall's family in Texas and Oklahoma a few weeks ago. It was the first time they all got to meet Avery & Abby. It was a really special trip. Avery loved getting to play with everyone's dogs. Here she is with Marshall's cousin, Marcy's dog, Daisy.

She Smiles!

I've been trying to get a good pic of Abby smiling since she started smiling (about five weeks now) and finally Super Daddy got a few good ones. :)

My Daughter's a Greaseball!!!

Avery was having a hard time going to sleep the other night. She got out of bed multiple times and had a hard time getting settled. Finally, Marshall and I thought she had fallen asleep. Well, we couldn't have been more wrong! When I went in to check on her before I went to bed I got a big surprise. Someone (I won't say who, but it wasn't me :)) had left the Vaseline we put on her cheeks before she goes to bed within Avery's reach on the dresser. I bet you can all guess what happened next. Avery was sound asleep in bed, but there was Vaseline EVERYWHERE! On the carpet, on the door, on the door knob, on her bed, on the dresser, and on the closet. I started cleaning and then Marshall came in. He discovered that it wasn't just things that had goop on them. Avery had imitated what she sees me do every day when I am doing my hair and put TONS of Vaseline in her hair. I had noticed her hair seemed wet, but I thought it was because she had gotten sweaty from having her blankets covering her head. It literally looked like she had just gotten out of the bath. Below are some pictures from the next morning, but they don't quite capture just how bad it was. We washed her hair 4 different times and it still looked gross. But the next day it looked much better-I think it just absorbed into her hair. Needless to say, the Vaseline is no longer kept in her room!

The Latest with the Meyer Fam

Life sure is busy these days! I'm lucky if I get to even check my e-mail, let alone post anything. :) We're doing well. Abby is growing and growing. She's smiling and cooing, which makes the challenging times bearable. She has been a bit more difficult than Avery. She has her fussy time every night and doesn't always sleep well at night. But, I think we're on the path to better days because she slept through the night on Monday!!! I woke up at 5:30am and realized that she hadn't made a peep and then ran into her room to check on her. All was fine and then I went back to bed for another hour. Yay! Avery is getting to be such a big girl! She counts to 6, knows most of her colors and shapes, and is starting to recognize some of her letters. She has an amazing memory too-she remembers things we have done or seen only once and then proceeds to talk and talk about it. She's made a ton of friends in our neighborhood (there are kids everywhere here!) and at church. It's so sweet to see her with them. Marshall and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary last month and sent the kids to Grandpa and Grandma's for the night. Oh, we needed that! It was so nice to spend husband and wife time instead of mommy and daddy time. We've made a deal to go on a date at least once a month if not more. Here are the latest pics. Enjoy!

Mom of two under the age of two

Can you tell that I have my hands just slightly full these days? Hardly any posts of my beautiful new baby, nothing even remotely resembling a clever comment, and Avery is no longer our narrator. I keep telling Abby that just because Mommy and Daddy haven't taken as many pictures of her as they did of Avery, it doesn't mean we love her any less. Although things have been busy, they've been good. Avery is completely in love with Abby and is so gentle and helpful. I'm feeling great (aside from an infection due to nursing) and am handling two kids during the day way better than I ever thought possible. Marshall was Super Dad and Super Husband during his two weeks off and is now adjusting to being back at work.
Abby is now three weeks old and is doing fabulously. She sleeps a lot and eats like a champ. She's started to hold your gaze and has changed her looks a bit. She still has gorgeous blue eyes and I think they'll stay that way. Still no issues with the heart murmur and we don't expect any. She has gained weight well and is getting taller and taller.
Here are a mishmash of pics from the last few weeks. Hopefully, I'll be able to post more often.
By the way, I apologize for the people leaving comments that lead to inappropriate web sites. If someone leaves a comment with a link, just make sure not to click on it and I'll delete it as soon as I'm aware of it.

Who's who?

Can you tell which one's Abby and which one's Avery?
